Swag Code 101

May 15, 2009

As featured on Swagbucks.com! Welcome to all new visitors… we hope you like what you see and come back often for Swag tips and Code hints.

line

gimme-reflectWe get a lot of questions about Swag Codes.

Swag Codes themselves are elusive and mysterious little things, so it only makes sense that people run into some trouble from time to time finding and entering them.  We’d like to pause from our regular work of providing hints about where to find Swag Codes and give you some tips on getting those Swag Codes entered so you can be sure to receive your extra Swag Bucks.

First of all, what is a Swag Code?

A Swag Code is a promotional code for swagbucks.com that will give you a Swag Buck or two when correctly entered on your My Account page.  They can be found on any of the official Swag Bucks pages (Facebook, SB Blog, Twitter, YouTube, and Flikr) and occasionally in the Swag Bucks Internet Explorer toolbar. They are available for either a limited time or for a limited number of users, so you need to keep your eyes peeled and act fast!

What do Swag Codes look like?  How will you know when you find one?

There are a few clues to keep in mind while hunting for Swag Codes.  The most obvious Swag Codes are announced as exactly that.  These dead give aways will look something like this:

Enter Swag Code “ANiceSwagCode” now to get a buck!

or

The Swag Code is:”ANiceSwagCode”

A couple things to note about the Swag Code itself are that it is in quotes and there are no spaces between the words.  If you are on one of the official pages (see above) and you see something like this

The Swag Guy had a great time eating a “LargePepperoniPizza” today.

there is a good chance it is a Swag Code.  Hey, it can’t hurt to try it out.

Swag Codes aren’t always in quotes though, especially since the introduction of the anti-code-sharing codes.  Some times you will see a code that looks like this

Enter code SuperCodeJciUtkb73 for a free Swag Buck.

That string of gobbledy gook letters is a sure sign that you are staring at a Swag Code.

Once you find the code what do you do?

To enter your newly found Swag Code you need to get to your My Account page by going to swagbucks.com and clicking on either the My Account button in the top right hand corner, or on the large Swag Buck tally box on the right hand column of the page.  (If your browser is sporting the WLSB Swag Army Knife toolbar you can click on the Swag Bucks drop down and click My Account Page (Gimme!).)

It might be a good idea to bookmark your My Account page for quick access.  This link will bring you to your My Account page so you can bookmark it now.

http://www.swagbucks.com/?cmd=sb-swagbucks

On your My Account page you will see a box that looks like the one at the top of this post.  This is where you can ‘Enter your Swag Code‘ and click the Gimme! button.  If you’ve gotten the Swag Code correct and the time or user limit has not been reached you’ll be rewarded for your hunt.

How will you know it worked?

When you enter a Swag Code you will receive one of four possible messages.  These messages appear in a little red pop up box.  We’ll take a look at each and what exactly they mean.

code-expired

The Swag Code you entered is correct, but unfortunately it has expired.  Dang!  Either the time limit or the user limit for the code has been met.  Remember that Swag Codes are a fleeting freebie;  they don’t last very long.  When you find one move fast!  The good news is that you got the Swag Code right!  You will live to Swag Hunt another day.  Rest assured in the fact that there are only two types of Swag Time:  times when there is an active Swag Code, and times when there is a Swag Code just around the corner.

code-invalid

The Swag Code you have entered is invalid.  This is not necessarily bad news.  If there is an active Swag Code out there this message should tell you to keep hunting, or to refine the Swag Code you have found.  Remember that Swag Codes are case sensitive.  Perhaps the code you found needs to be in ALL CAPS, Capitalized or in all lower case.  Maybe you need to take the spaces out between words.  Keep trying, the game is still afoot!

code-used

Waitaminit!  Don’t be greedy now ;) You’ve already successfully entered this Swag Code and they can only be used once.

code-win

CONSWAGULATIONS!  You did it!  You have successfully hunted for, found, and entered the Swag Code.  You are one (or maybe more) Swag Buck closer to great prizes.

This isn’t an official site of Swagbucks. They didn’t take it out, Swagbucks did because you aren’t allowed to give out the actual codes.

I think they should make it where you gain 1 swag buck everyday you sign on. that could help more people out then looking through blogs unless your a blogger type. But if not it will keep your followers longer since they gain one swag buck a day and warm them up to signing in everyday and finding those hidden codes.

Nice guide, it helps me out a lot, as i am a new comer.

      Hi ridvan,
No we cannot post the codes here or anywhere. Posting codes is grounds for having your account deactivated. If you haven’t gotten a code in a month then you should probably consider changing your strategy. Try checking out our Never Miss Another Swag Code article for a rewarding idea.

      Good luck!

Swag Codes are available for either a limited time or for a limited number of users, so you need to keep your eyes peeled and act fast! If you don’t see anything right this minute, wait a while, there is sure to be a Swag Code posted soon.
      Good Luck!

      Hi Nick,
There are no specific terms or phrases that will guarantee you a Swag Buck. Each search you perform is like a pull on a slot machine. You may or may not get a Swag Buck reward. That said, there are right ways and wrong ways to search.

Repeated searching will not help you. It may harm your chances of getting Swag Bucks. Natural searches work best. Nonsense searches can actually get you deactivated. Just use Swagbucks.com as you normally would use any other search engine.

The amount of Swag Bucks you win is as random as the winning itself. Most of the time you will receive 1 Swag Buck when you win. The denominations increase in rarity as they increase in value. The most we have ever won is 10 Swag Bucks in a single search and that was only once. We’ve won a couple of 5s, a couple of 4s, a bunch of 3s, a whole lot of 2s and tons of 1s.
Are your friends showing up in your friend list? (Check your friends list here) It can take up to 48 hours for your friends to appear in your list and the same amount of time for Swag Bucks they win to appear in your tally. If you’re not getting them in your list and their Swag Bucks in your tally it could be one of three things:
      1) There is a problem on the Swag Bucks end. Very unlikely, but write to support@swagbucks.com and tell them about your issue.
      2) Your friends didn’t use your link when they signed up.
      3) Your friends used your link but aren’t searching regularly.
      Good luck!

Then you are entering it incorrectly. See above, if you receive the Please enter a valid promotion code message the Swag Code you have entered is invalid (ie it is not a Swag Code). This is not necessarily bad news. If there is an active Swag Code out there this message should tell you to keep hunting, or to refine the Swag Code you have found. Maybe you mistyped it. Remember that Swag Codes are case sensitive. Perhaps the code you found needs to be in ALL CAPS, Capitalized or in all lower case. Maybe you need to take the spaces out between words. Keep trying!

But what we can give you is hints when the codes come out. Stay tuned, check back often, and good luck!

In Swag Bucks terms, your “friends” are the people who have signed up using your referral link. If you already have an account then you cannot add existing Swag Bucks users as friends.

When someone signs up with your referral link you will receive a Swag Buck for each one they win by searching. They in turn will not receive any Swag Bucks from you.

The Swag Bucks you earn from your referrals will only come from their searching. You do not receive the 3 initial Swag Bucks they get when they sign up, nor do you receive any Swag Bucks when they enter Swag Codes (promotional codes that will give you a Swag Buck or two) or when they receive Swag Bucks from referrals of their own.
